Old Business
1. Alternatives for General Scientific Meetings
Anne Giblin reported that a General Scientific Meeting and Young Scientists Symposium is scheduled for August 9-10. Paul De Weer encouraged all to attend to assess the level of success of this endeavor.

2. Report on Education Committee
Don Faber reported that Catherine Carr has agreed to be the Science Council’s representative on the Education Committee.

Don further indicated that he has generated a list of potential new members to serve on the Education Committee that will be sent to Gary Borisy for his perusal.

Don also suggested that there be a one-day meeting for Directors of Summer Courses to allow each to present what is being taught in their particular course.

New Business
Gary Borisy asked the Science Council for input regarding naming opportunities at the MBL. He requested that Council help generate a policy for naming opportunities and devise a plan for its implementation.

Regarding issues raised at the Annual Corporation meeting.
(i) Request for access to MBL facilities for Corporation members.
This has already been implemented.
(ii) Request to make available contact information on people at MBL.
This will be explored to see if it can be done on a search by name basis.

Don Faber asked if (at least some) Science Council meetings could be scheduled on a Friday or Monday.

It was also requested that the schedule for Trustees meetings be communicated to Science Council as long in advance as possible.

Paul De Weer asked for consideration of appointing a Vice-Chair for Science Council who could e.g. stand in for the Chair at Trustees meetings. This may require an amendment to the bylaws.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 pm.

Respectfully submitted
E.A. Dawidowicz
