Acting Director of External Affairs
Pamela Clapp Hinkle is the MBL’s Director of Communications and Acting Director of External Affairs. A Cape Cod native, Pam earned a B.S. in biology from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She joined the MBL in 1982 as assistant editor of the MBL’s international journal, The Biological Bulletin, and has served the laboratory in a variety of capacities since then. She has managed the MBL’s acclaimed Science Journalism Program since it's founding in 1986 and coordinated the laboratory’s centennial events in 1988. In 1989 she was promoted to Managing Editor of The Biological Bulletin, and in 1992 she was named Director of Communications, with oversight for the journal as well as all MBL publications, the MBL’s web site, Discovery Campaign collateral and events, media relations, and public outreach activities. She was also actively involved in the development of the MBL’s Strategic Plan and in implementing the laboratory’s Image and Identity initiative. Under Pam’s leadership, the Communications team recently redesigned the laboratory’s web site and launched Catalyst, a new magazine published twice a year.
In September 2007 Pam was named Acting Director of External Affairs. In this role she manages the MBL’s fundraising, government relations, and communications activities.
